BA in molecular biology with Honors and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Berkeley. He received his MD with Alpha Omega Alpha from the University of California, San Francisco. He received his masters in biomedical informatics from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Natarajan completed internal medicine residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, then cardiology fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital.Dr. Natarajan uses germline and somatic genetic variation to uncover new biology and enable enhanced clinical care for cardiovascular disease. He leads several consortia to use genetic epidemiology, large-scale sequencing studies, genotype-driven human investigation, and genetic testing implementation. His research program spans the MGH Cardiovascular Research Center, MGH Center for Genomic Medicine, and Broad Institute Cardiovascular Disease Initiative. He is an Associate Editor for JAMA Cardiology and Science Advances. In tandem his research efforts, Dr. Natarajan oversees clinical and training programs on the prevention of cardiometabolic diseases leading the MGH Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center, and enables novel care paradigms across the healthsystem via Mass General Brigham Personalized Medicine.Dr. Natarajan is an Elected Member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and of the Association of American Physicians. He has received several awards for his scientific contributions, including the Jeffrey M. Hoeg and Joseph A. Vita Awards from American Heart Association, as well as mentorship awards from MGH and Harvard Medical School.

Lastly, his driving force is a family history of diabetes and premature CVD for which he tries his best to be active and eat well but it’s a challenge!

A/Prof Neuen established the SGLT2 Meta-Analysis Cardio-Renal Trialists' Consortium, bringing together data on >90,000 patients to better understand the effects of this class of medicines in different types of patients. His work has directly informed more than 25 major international and national guidelines, position papers and scientific statements which define optimal care for people with type 2 diabetes and kidney disease including the KDIGO guidelines and American Diabetes Association Standards of Care. A/Prof Neuen is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications in general medical journals including The Lancet, BMJ and Nature Medicine and serves on the Editorial Boards of the American Society of Nephrology and Nephrology Dialysis and Transplantation. She is Chair of Kidney Health Australia, Chair of the NSW Bureau of Health Information and Deputy Chair of the Australian Organ, Tissue and Transplant Authority.
